Ooredoo has today been named the National Telecommunication Partner of the upcoming Road World Championships, which is set to take place in Qatar from 9-16 October.
The 2016 Road World Championship has been organised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Doha, and will host around 1,000 racers from 75 countries, and more than 5,700 participants from national federations, delegations, and media outlets. As well as competitors and the media, Qatar is expecting around 30,000 cycling fans to attend the highly anticipated events, which will be spread across the country.
Talking about the sponsorship, Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo, said: “Spectators from all over the world will tune in to this exciting event, to see world-class sportsmen race for the title and cash prize. This is a great opportunity for us all to showcase Qatar, as each race will display Qatar’s incredible scenery, from the beating heart of the city, to our beautiful deserts.” “We encourage everyone to make sure they cheer on the athletes and show we are a country that cares about sport. Ooredoo is extremely proud to help provide communication needs to the athletes and visitors for this event,” he added. By hosting the Road World Championships in Doha, Qatar will become the first Middle East country to stage the event, and the second Asian country in its history, after being hosted by Japan in 1990.
As well as providing SIM cards for selected competitors, Ooredoo will support the competition through its social media pages, broadcasting competition times and wins to its followers. This is the 89th edition of the competition and the event will consist of several road races, a team time trial, and junior men and women contests. This is the latest example of support for sporting events from Ooredoo in 2016, as the company continues to promote healthy living, and inspire children to take up sports. So far this year Ooredoo has provided support for The 2016 Rio Olympic Games, FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup, hosted the Ooredoo Marathon and more.
