Ooredoo signs MoU with QTerminals to leverage digital solutions in the domain of IoT and 5G

Ooredoo, the region’s leading enabler of digital business innovation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with QTerminals WLL, to design a state of the art, high availability, WAN infrastructure and hosting solutions which enable the complete suite of unified communications across their locations in Qatar.

In addition to this, Ooredoo and QTerminals will collaborate and share information in relation to the Internet of Things (IoT) Product and Services. In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the government is supporting the growth of Hamad Port, one of the Middle East’s largest ports, to drive economic diversification and enhance the country’s ports and logistics innovations in the highlycompetitive ports and logistics fields. At Hamad Port, QTerminals provides container, general cargo and RORO, livestock and offshore supply services.

Thanks to this Memorandum of Understanding, Ooredoo and QTerminals will jointly explore partnership opportunities in the space of IoT and 5G technology to spur new levels of productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.

Yousuf Abdulla Kubaisi, Chief Operating Officer, Ooredoo, said: “In signing this MoU with QTerminals, we’re leveraging best practices in innovative technology and experience in supporting Qatar’s mega-projects in order to explore ways that will supportQTerminals’ digital transformation. Using the IoT sensors on ships and containers, with data transmitted via 5G, QTerminals can predict shipping demand peaks, enhance operations and optimise throughput.”

The multi-modal Hamad Port currently has an annual yard capacity of 2 million TEUs. The port’s yard capacity is set to grow to 7.5 million TEUs in the coming years, including being able to host 1.7 million tonnes of general freight and 500,000 vehicles per year.
