Ooredoo has today announced the launch of a new Online Safety Campaign, which aims to educate social media users on the platforms available to them, as well as offer top tips for parents on how to keep their children cyber-safe. The Online Safety Campaign has been launched to ensure that parents and children know the risks of being online and also to teach users how to combat inappropriate content on social media.

Talking about the launch, Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director, Community and Public relations, Ooredoo said: “We believe that the Internet has the ability to change lives, inspire millions and help businesses in Qatar flourish. However, we also know that the Internet can contain offensive content, scam pages and much more. Ooredoo invest millions in protecting our users from the dark side of the Internet and we understand the solutions need to extend beyond technological protection. This is why we’re launching the Online Safety Campaign to target things you can do to keep you and your family safe, and away from inappropriate content.”

The campaign will cover some of the most popular social media sites, including Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. It will also include a guide to online scams and a dedicated post regarding online access for children. In an introductory post on the Ooredoo Community (http://community.ooredoo.qa), the company highlighted that children under the age of 13 should not have access to social media as per the platforms’ terms and conditions. The post also suggested that families, or anyone who doesn’t want to see explicit content, set their own rules about online behaviour.

“These posts have been designed to help guide customers and their children through the digital maze of the Internet, and set clear instructions on what to do if they come across inappropriate content. Protecting our children and Qatar’s culture is a key issue for Ooredoo, and we hope that our customers find the information presented by this campaign useful,” Al Kuwari added. The posts will be published weekly via the Ooredoo Community, and will be available in both English and Arabic.
