Ooredoo began its official countdown to the 2016 Rio Olympics on its social media pages, calling for people across Qatar to support Team Qatar and cheer on the 38 Qatari athletes competing this summer. Ooredoo has signed an agreement with Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) to support the committees work, and a number of upcoming international sporting events.

As part of the agreement, Ooredoo is a National Sponsor of QOC. In addition, Ooredoo is supporting Bayt Qatar, the QOC’s Olympic hospitality house in Rio de Janeiro that will share Qatar’s culture, heritage and passion for sport with the Olympics’ international audience. The rousing #YallaQatar campaign was launched by the Qatar Olympics Committee and is being supported by Ooredoo as part of its wider partnership agreement. Ooredoo will promote athleticism and sporting events to its customers, as part of its efforts to inspire the next wave of Qatari sporting talent.

To ensure competitors can keep in touch with loved ones, Ooredoo will be giving all members of Team Qatar an Ooredoo Passport card, which includes 100 roaming minutes for all incoming and outgoing calls, and 1GB of roaming mobile data. To make the most of the international crowds, and help position Qatar as a leading sporting destination, Ooredoo will have a dedicated stand in Bayt Qatar showing its progress on “smart stadium” and smart solutions for major sporting events. Team Qatar will be competing across ten sports in the Rio Summer Olympics from 5-21 August 2016.

Athletes contending include high jumper Mutaz Barshim, female swimmer Nada Arkji, and Bronze Olympic shooting medallist and Ooredoo ambassador, Nasser Al-Attiyah. Qatar’s equestrian and handball team will also fly the flag at the global sporting event. Ooredoo’s partnership with Qatar Olympic Committee will also include all Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) events, FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup events, and support for the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series, which will next be held in 2017.
