Ooredoo laying the foundations for 5G in Qatar

Ooredoo Qatar's Chief Executive Officer, Waleed Al Sayed (pictured), has outlined the company’s vision to become the leading integrated ICT provider in Qatar and detailed its ongoing work to prepare to launch 5G services in Qatar at the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference taking place in Doha.

Across its footprint, Ooredoo is pursuing a strategy of network evolution that will deliver a better internet experience for customers, as well as enabling a host of smart technologies that connect millions of devices to the network. Ooredoo is already laying the foundations for 5G services in Qatar, recently announcing it has signed agreements with global technology leaders to build the region’s first 5G research and development centre in Doha. Waleed Al Sayed presented the company’s vision in a keynote speech at the opening event of the conference, and outlined how this investment would support the deployment of Internet of Things innovations across a range of industries.

Waleed Al Sayed said: “The rise of the ‘Internet of Things’ means that we need networks that can support billions of connected devices, as well as millions of people. Our investment in the Ooredoo Supernet means that we will be ready for this technological evolution and will offer our customers the latest solutions as they become available. Events like the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference enable us to transfer knowledge and build partnerships for the future, as we push to become the leading integrated ICT provider in Qatar.”

The IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference is the world premier wireless event that brings together industry professionals, academics, and individuals from government agencies to exchange information and ideas on the advancement of wireless communications and networking technology. During his Keynote Speech, Ooredoo Qatar’sChief Executive Officer also showed a video on the incredible services that the Supernet will bring to customers in Qatar. Highlights included the nationwide use of smart payments, mobile ticketing and a country-wide super-fast 5G connection.

The IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference features numerous technical sessions with papers showcasing the latest technologies, applications and services.
