Ooredoo today confirmed its upbeat outlook for the telecoms market in Qatar in 2015. Ooredoo believes in the strength and dynamism of Qatar’s communication sector, which continues to expand and mature. In its most recent financial results (published on 29 July), the company reported strong performance in Qatar in the first half of 2015, seeing significant growth in customer numbers and revenue market share.
Revenue increased by 14% to QAR 4,003 million (1H 2014: QAR 3,502 million), while EBITDA increased by almost 16% to QAR 2,020 million (1H 2014: QAR 1,743 million). Net Profit increased by 25% to QAR 1,137 million (1H 2014: QAR 910 million) due to higher revenue and EBITDA. Ooredoo’s total customer numbers reached 3.4 million in Qatar, representing a 14% year-on-year increase. One of the key success factors for Ooredoo in 2015 has been the performance of its nationwide Supernet, which offers advanced speeds and connectivity for fixed and mobile customers.
Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Operating Officer, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “We believe that the market in Qatar will continue to grow and develop, supported by strong infrastructure and the deployment of leading-edge technology. We will continue to deliver better and more innovative services for our customers.” In particular, Al Sayed highlighted Ooredoo’s on-going investment in a nationwide Ooredoo Fibre network, which currently connects more than 236,000 homes in Qatar.
“Ooredoo has invested more than QAR 1 billion to build a fibre network for Qatar, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of customers and contributing to our goal of making our nation one of the best-connected countries in the world. This investment – and the incredibly positive responses we’ve received from companies and businesses – supports our belief in the dynamism of this market,” he concluded.
